What are some of your favourite quotes from your grandparents or parents?

My Grandfather use to say," life is good if you don't weaken.

My mother once looked directly at a red fire hydrant and said, "That's a funny looking cat."

My grandmother: " if you lay down with a dog you come up with fleas."  " Live your life for today but plan and prepare for tomorrow."  " These are the fastest days of your life." My grandfather: " Men do not wear long hair and ear rings." " Men do not depend/or expect anyone to pay their bills."  "Men will make their own way in this life."  " If  you don't work you don't eat."  I was raised by my grandparents  and  I  heard these saying over and over again. As well as " I used to walk ten miles in the snow just to get to ....!"

I used to have my eyes on so many projects as a teen and my lovely dad always said a Proverb in an African Language, which translates:

"A person who chases 2 rats, will end up catching nothing". lol.

He encouraged me to face one thing at a time.

My mom says, "Fiddlesticks" when she gets mad. It is so goofy and funny and endearing. It's about the strongest word I've ever heard her use.

-what a great memory of your Mom.

billyon -i spent a lot of time with my grandparents also and I remember the I walked 10 mile stories a lot!

Lady_E -A great saying from your Dad I compare it to one my Dad use to say . A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

LoriSoard -Fiddlesticks is a great word. I bet your Mom was very strict with you also.

When my mom got mad at us, she would say, "I'm going to kill you and swear you died!"  It took me years to figure that one out - I kept thinking, 'If she kills us, of course we will have died.'  No, she never did it.

My dad used to always say " you've made your bed now lie in it'. When we were growing up if we done something wrong that is what he would say, he was one of kind.

My grandmother always said 'Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right'   Always stuck with me.

She also said never say goodbye always say cheerio or see you later as goodbye is final.   I never said goodbye to her until she had passed.
